About Me
Joshua Dern is a senior digital media exec with over 15 years of expertise overseeing user experience, product development, and digital strategy. He’s worked on some of the best-known media properties and built many pioneering digital products. When he’s not working as a senior product strategy and user experience director at Huge, Inc., he can be found working on Reqoop, an innovative startup focused on reinventing style discovery.
He’s held such positions as Senior Vice President & General Manager of Social Media in the Global Digital Media group of MTV Networks, where he was responsible for overseeing product development and global strategy for incorporating and executing social media across MTVN’s portfolio of more than 200 brands and web sites around the world, including such iconic brands as MTV, Vh1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike, and others. Joshua was responsible for overseeing the development of Flux, MTV Networks innovative social media platform, which in under two years grow to over 12M members and more than 7,000 publishers.
Prior to his experience at MTV, Joshua held various positions in the entertainment industry, pioneering the convergence of the internet and traditional media, including almost a decade developing Atlantic Records‘ industry leading new media department. Joshua first joined Atlantic Records as one of the first digital media experts in 1997, where over the years he served not only as creative director and head of production for the digital media department, but he also served as a key strategist in evaluating new business models and technologies, oversaw anti-piracy policies, and acted as the company’s net business expert. With his help Atlantic Records produced many award winning and innovative industry firsts, including award winning artist web sites, label sites, cd-roms, mobile entertainment, and DVDs.
Prior to working at Atlantic and MTVN, Joshua worked as a touring musician, freelance artist, filmmaker, photographer, and marketing consultant. In addition to his work, he has participated in numerous think tanks, lectures, and conferences on media, technology, and the future of the entertainment industry.
